MATERIALS TECHNOLOGY AND ALLOYS
LIGHTNESS STARTS WITH THE MATERIAL
LEIBER stands for expertise along the whole process chain: from the molten alloy right through to the fitted assembly for all forgeable aluminum alloys. In close cooperation with suppliers, this permits optimum balancing and parameterization of the entire pouring, extruding, drop forging and heat treatment process. This is how LEIBER forged pieces are tuned for maximum performance.
This begins with the specific optimization of the materials used. LEIBER brand alloys are based on the standard alloys EN AW-6082 and EN AW-6182, which are widely used for forging. In 2004, this resulted in our in-house materials AluHigh® and AluXtrem®. With these alloys, we are pushing the boundaries of the mechanical performance achievable with forged copper-free aluminum components.
The new in-house alloy AluMotive®, launched in 2022, takes special account of increasing sustainability requirements: AluMotive® enables a CO2 footprint reduced by up to 50% without any loss of performance.
The significant CO2 reduction is possible, firstly because one process step of the production is cut, secondly by using renewable energy in the primary production and thirdly by increasing the recycling share. Furthermore, AluMotive® enables a clear enhancement of the near-net-shape design, thus saving material in forging and machining.
In this way LEIBER is continuing on its path of expanding its service portfolio in the field of materials technology with a consistent focus on customer benefits and sustainability.
ALLOYS
IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THE BOND
For the mechanical specifications of forged parts made from standard wrought aluminium alloys, the standard EN 586-2 applies. The values listed in this standard can be reliably demonstrated in every forged part at any time. At the LEIBER Group, we also use our own thermomechanical treatments on the forged parts.
The LEIBER Group's preferred materials are:
For all other wrought aluminium alloys, standard EN 573-3 applies.
The mechanical properties and conditions defined by us are shown in the following table:
